Remembering when...

Last night is the first time we've gotten five eggs from our five girls! It was a pleasant surprise and...

it got me thinking back to when they were little. The girls were so cute!

Now they are big and grown up. JD fits right into the bunch. Her best friend is Pumpkin. They are always side by side.

And yeah, Pumpkin always looks this mad...

The girls will be 1 year old in May. Boy, how time flies.

I'll have to think up a good idea for a birthday cake for them, maybe with worm-meal icing?

New Seehafer Farm Bus

Well, here's the new addition to the Seehafer Farm... and of course, Brian being a "Dodge" man, it had to be a Dodge.

I've never thought of myself as a "mini van mom" but if you look at the crew of animals we have, we needed it!

This 2001 Grand Caravan can seat 7 humans comfortably...

and with the hatch back, two goats and chicken will feel right at home!

Note: The 1965 VW Beetle, my most favorite car in the world, is in retirement right now. Brian and I are going to fully restore her. She'll be good as new!

The Chicken Whisperer

Let me introduce you to Andy Schneider... aka "The Chicken Whisperer." Andy is the guru guy of chickens. He knows everything about them!! Andy is probably the biggest influence and reason (in my opinion) on why lots of urban homes now have chickens.

This picture is provided from his website: http://www.chickenwhisperer.net/

Andy has a wonderful radio show that I encourage everyone to listen to!

You can get to his radio show through his websites below:

"Seehafer Nursing Home"

Here at the Seehafer Farm we have our share of older animals and with that comes doctor visits, special foods, vitamins and medicine. Bubba is our oldest dog at 16 and Angel our oldest cat at 16 too. Both have arthritis and Angel has Feline Hyperthyroidism. Both require shots, medication and vitamins.

Katie (13 years old) is next with diabetes. She was just diagnosed with it last week. We're going to try to control it with diet. Right now she's on ear drops for a bacteria infection in them and medication for a bacteria infection in her intestines. In the fridge is Katie's ear drops and Trigger's antibiotics located next to the lemon juice...

Trigger (age 9) is our rabbit. He has a abscessed tooth. With his age, the length of a rabbit's tooth and the cost of removal, we've decided not to put him through that. He'll have to be on antibiotics the rest of his life. And there's Tootie, she's about 8 years old. She a beagle mix. Beagles have trouble with their neck vertebrate. We've got to be careful with her, she had an "episode" - shook with pain- and had to be put on anti-inflammatory medicine but she is doing much better now. As a matter of fact, they are all doing much better now. Between Dr. Gable, Dr. Harris and the crew at Vetmed in Mount Juliet and us here at the farm, we've got everyone under control. Thank you over there at Vetmed!! Seehafer Farm loves ya'll!!

Clean Chickens

Chickens absolutely LOVE to take dirt baths... not my girls, they are clean princesses!

Ha! As soon as Brian and/or I open the door to their roost, they head straight for the dirt pile next to the compost pile.

It's the best of both worlds for them... "lunch" - the worms in the compost pile and "mud bath spa" - the dirt pile.

The dirt bathes are a natural way of controlling lice & mites on them...

and about 20 minutes of entertainment for me... yeah, I have no life.

Rainy Morning

The rain really came down this morning and for a couple of hours.  I walked by the dogs to get to the garage and this is what I saw... rainy day dog faces.

Bubba and KC didn't even move when I took their picture.  You can see the sad look in their eyes... so sad.

Cheer up puppies, spring is just around the corner!

Nashville Lawn and Garden Show Part 2

I left my two favorite items I look forward to at the Nashville Lawn and Garden Show for last, fresh herbs...
They were everywhere!  In garden designs... love the honey bees... hmmm, the next summer project and addition to the Seehafer Farm... maybe!
and dried...
I talked with David Cornett, owner of "Just Herbs" located in Big Stone Gap Virginia.  The inspiration for the company came from his wife Donna, who was told to have no more salt in her diet after a doctor's visit.  I got to smell and taste David's creations... so good!!

Check out "Just Herbs" at their website:
http://www.justherbs.org/

And my other favorite, Garr's Rental & Feed... they are located in Mount Juliet Tennessee.
It's just a down home feed store with very friendly and knowledgeable people.  The baby ducks and baby chicks are coming soon too!
Visit their website at:
http://www.garrsrentalandfeed.com/

It was a good show all around and now I'm really looking forward to spring that's just around the corner!

Nashville Lawn and Garden Show Part 1

The Nashville Lawn and Garden Show was this past weekend.  Brian and I always go for ideas for the spring and summer.  This year seemed more art oriented with beautiful sculptures, fountains and plant arrangements.  I really loved this entry...
Here's another entry.  Brian and I loved the idea of the tree stumps cut and used for the pathway... plus I really liked the old Chevy car!
There were beautiful stone and plant arrangements everywhere... all great ideas, that's why I really bring the camera with me... oh, plus the blog of course.
I really like this mosaic tile caterpillar with leaf.  It's inspired me to try some mosaic tile projects this year.
Notice this flower basket, take a really good look at the basket it's self... it's a vine!  Just incredible.
I'll have Part 2 tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Friday Night at the Seehafer Farm

We are party animals here at the farm, especially on a Friday night!

... that's Brian behind Tootie, both asleep on the couch before 8:30pm ...
We just love to dance until dawn!  That's the kind of people we are!

... here's Josie and Katie squeezed in one kitty bed on the bottom bunk of the cat tree, both asleep ...

We are on the move, party hopping from one hang out to the next.  It's how we roll!

... Angel out like a light on the top bunk of the cat tree ...

And me, armed with a camera to take all the party pictures to capture the fun outrageous moments!  PARTY ON DUDE!!

Watch For Open Doors

"When one door closes another opens. But often we look so long so regretfully upon the closed door that we fail to see the one that has opened for us."

Here's Your Sign

I'm going to bring back one of my favorite segments... "Here's Your Sign." I love signs, all kinds... funny, vintage, new, bright, painted and plastic.

I took this when I was working in Washington DC for that weekend in last fall. Read the sign and notice the car in the background... ouch!

The Wonderful Thing About Pets

"The Wonderful Thing About Pets" segment is brought to you by A Good Life.

This is what life looks like when you know it’s good...

That's William Jake on Brian's Navy wool blanket. WJ is not stupid.
