Brian's Bratty Kid

This is the weekend routine with the "kids"... Brian heads out very early to get them their bucket of minnows and a small plastic cup of grubs for Albert... he gets minnows too.

When Brian gets home, they all get very excited. They start to follow Brian where ever he goes. Just for giggles, Brian walks around the yard with the "kids" following in line. It looks like a mama duck being followed by her baby ducks.

Albert loves spending time with Brian, especially with that little plastic cup in Brian's hand. Albert knows that there's something tasty in cup. This whole process lasts all day, getting fish breaks with the "kids." Then it starts all over again on Sunday morning.

Blanche and Pumpkin just wanted their picture taken. They look pretty happy, don't you think?!?! NOT!!!

It's All About Albert!

Today's segment of "The Wonderful Thing About Pets" is brought to you by... Martha Stewart's Outdoor Living Furniture... not.

This is Albert. He's suppose to be a baby rooster but again I believe he either thinks he's a dog...

or human, not sure which.

I do know that he enjoys the finer things in life.

Three Dogs?

Since when do we have three dogs?

It was Sunday morning, I looked out the screen door with my coffee in hand... "Morning Bubba. Morning Tootie. Morning Al?"

Albert had his breakfast, decided the dog bed on the deck looked quite comfortable and that is were he was going to take his morning nap. I'm beginning to think that he's confused about being a rooster. He thinks he's a dog... (insert eye-roll here) whatever.

Fuzzy Chicken Butts

I know it's weird and I say this every time I mention this subject AND some day I will get help for this addiction... I absolutely love fuzzy chicken butts!

These two are brought to you by...

ROSE... (she's the fuzzy butt on the right)

AND PUMPKIN (the other fuzzy butt on the left.)

Both whom look like they are going to kick my butt.

Little Man is Growing Up

Yesterday morning I heard this weird sound come from the back yard. It sounded like a goose with laryngitis.

I walked out the back door onto the deck and Albert was just standing there. We stared at each other for a few seconds and...

he started to raise his neck, stick his little chest up and out, opened his mouth and crowed... or what sounded like a goose with laryngitis. I told him to keep practicing.

You'll crow soon little man!

The Mohawk is BACK!

This segment of "The Wonderful Thing About Pets" is brought to you by styling gel... it's not just for humans anymore!

After the summer months of being bald, the mohawk is back!

The one great thing about Bubba, as there are many, many great things about this dog, he's better than a dress up doll. This kid will let me do anything to him. He has patience of a saint dog, but...

I'm sure I'll owe him lots of treats for this!

P.S. I did not use styling gel on Bubba. He's hair does this naturally... with a little sqeegeeing!

Creating a Bratty Kid

Albert is finally feeling at home here at Seehafer Farm. The girls are still picking on him but he's quick! Just wait, they get their "comeupins!"... hmmm, let's look that word up...

"Comeupins" from Urban Dictionary.com:
Getting what you deserve. Usually in some form of punishment, especially a beating.

You girls better watch your backs when Albert gets bigger!!

So, Brian read in one of our chicken books that fish is very good source of protein for the girls and Albert. It does however, if fed a lot of fish, make the eggs taste fishy... you are what you eat! Brian gets this great idea, grabs his yellow bucket and heads to the bait shop to buy 4 dozen minnows for the kids. He comes back, sets the yellow bucket down and the girls gather near. Brian pulls out the first fish, gives it to Albert (because his is the baby.) Albert grabs the wiggling fish and takes off like a race horse. The girls have no idea what happened and gets even closer to see what Brian has in his hands. Brian pulls out a couple more and the girls just go wild! Each girl got several minnows and Albert came back like a dozen times! Brian puts up the rest of the fish.

About a half an hour later I walked outside on the deck to check on the kids and this is what I found... Albert waiting for more minnows! He wanted to make sure you can't miss him! I emailed Albert's first mom, Holly. And told her the story. She said... "The minnows are just fine and if your not careful you will create the bratty kid that wants McDonalds for every meal but in chicken form." Well, Holly was right! Brian has created a bratty kid...

Holly, if you're reading this, we still love Albert!! Albert follows Brian around everywhere he goes. He's Brian's bird now!

October by Robert Frost (1874-1963)

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
To-morrow's wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
To-morrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow,
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know;
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away;
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!
For the grapes' sake, if they were all,
Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,
Whose clustered fruit must else be lost--
For the grapes' sake along the wall.

Last Basket of the Summer

Here's the last of the summer veggies...

I was actually sad picking these. I guess, I really didn't want to say good-bye to summer yet... plus the fact that I had to already break out the heating lamps for Albert and the girls. We have to keep those kids toes warm!
