The weatherman is reporting this morning that it's 15 degrees. Holy smoke, I just got done feeding the girls and... it's cold out there!

Sweet Dreams Josie

Where Josie sleeps is a good clue that it might be cold outside. We found her curled up on some blankets that our grandmothers knitted.

That's a good warm place.

A White Christmas

Yesterday was Nashville's first snow white Christmas in 17 years!

The girls never cared one bit, they chose to stay in the roost all day. No playing out in the snow for them.

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas.

Recycle Idea

Instead of throwing away the Christmas cards this year, recycle them! I think it's been years since I've bought "name tags" for presents.

I save the cards and cut off the cover of them using straight edge or design edge scissors. On the back, just write the "to's", "from's" and you even have room for a sweet Christmas message.

Decorate the present with matching ribbon and an ornament...

or with other "add ons"...

and fini! There you have a very creative way of wrapping and using recycled Christmas cards for decorating presents.

RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE!!

Getting Ready...

for a very cold, wet afternoon.

As you can see, we do a bunch here before bad weather hits. We've got priorities around here ya know.

That's Bubba, Tootie and William Jake sharing the big comfy bed.

Sunday Night Snow

It has been snowing since earlier this afternoon. Brian and I have been checking on the girls (chickens) and Trigger all day. Everyone is inside their houses, safe and warm. Bubba and Tootie are right behind me, fast asleep and snoring.

Now It Feels Like Christmas

The girls are exhausted...

after working hard to get their Christmas lights up on the roost.

We think they did a really great job.

Good going girls!!

Today's Quote

I thought for a moment about finding a nice, warm, fuzzy quote on how winter makes us feel...

“Winter is nature's way of saying, "Up yours."”
-Robert Byrne quotes (American Author and billiards champion player, Writer of 'Standard Book of Pool and Billiards'. b.1930)

... that's about right.

Josie said...

"It's good to be the kitten."

She's really not a kitten... she's 7... but you can't tell her any different.

The Answer

And the answer to yesterday's blog is...

an antique booth! This is the Seehafer Farm booth... (just moved in over the weekend)

We're at PJ's Antique Mall in Mount Juliet. The place is run by Ruth and Ray (partners in business, not by marriage like I thought.) The mall has been around for 16 years.

It's filled top to bottom with great treasures of the past!

Here's the address if any of you find yourself on this side of town, come on by...
PJ's Antique Mall
11520 Lebanon Road
Mount Juliet, TN 37122
615-754-6232 phone
OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK... Monday - Saturday 10am to 5pm / Sunday 12noon to 5pm

There's nothing like finding something you use to have many years ago and reminiscing about those times.

Hope to see you there!

Wasn't Meant To Be

Brian and I had a bunch of things going on this weekend. We did get news Sunday from Micah (our real estate agent) that we did not get the farm in Cottontown, Tennessee.

We're sad but everything will be good. Life goes on and so does the search for the farm!

Another Clue...

Remember several weeks ago I started making these tags for something I wanted to do for the longest time...

well, here's another clue...

?????????

The answer and lots of pictures will come tomorrow!

Hello Winter!

This is what we woke up to Saturday... SNOW!

I let Bubba and Tootie in to warm up their little feet. Tootie quickly found herself a warm spot... she squeezed herself between Brian and the couch. She looked quite comfy.

Too Cold

Josie sees no reason to get out of a warm comfy bed this weekend.

She also advises everyone else to do the same.

Stay warm!

Next Knitting Project

Ok, first I have to learn to knit...

Second, I'm knitting four of these for the girls...

I'M IN LOVE WITH CHICKEN SWEATERS!!!

(Thank yous to Mother Earth News Magazine, fadetofuture on flickr.com and lolpetclothes.com for the pictures. They are awesome!)

Cottontown, Tennessee

Brian and I have found a great farm. Smaller but very nice land. It's in Cottontown Tennessee, about 30 miles northeast of Nashville. We sent out a contract yesterday and found out that we are the fourth person(s) to go after this farm. It's a good price and there is a lot of house to work with. Right now they are asking for "your best and highest bid." We came up with an amount this morning that we're comfortable with. Brian and I made the decision that we will not go any higher. Brian said "If it was meant to be..." I'm glad one of us keeping our emotions intact, I couldn't sleep last night. We'll find out by Friday who gets the little farm.

Like Brian said... "if it was meant to be."

Note To Self...

Never ask Brian to melt butter. There's a "You know you're a redneck when" joke in here somewhere! Love you Brian!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! Have a safe and wonderful holiday.

Does It Come With Biscuts?

Mama was ready for dinner! It was chicken with roasted garlic and mushroom gravy... just fyi, I got the chicken from Kroger, not the back yard.

A Beautiful Breezy Sunday

We found William Jake napping in our neighbor's backyard grass.

I think I see a smile on his face...

Farm Life

This would be the only part of farm life we don't like... yesterday morning, Albert and Pumpkin had to be put down. It was the only humane thing to do for them. They both had signs of Marek's Disease.

Monday evening after work we found Albert in the dog house. He was unable to walk. Albert had signs of paralysis on his left side. Brian notice on Saturday that he wasn't eatting as many minnows as he usually does but thought that he was just full. Sunday and Monday morning when I let him and the girls out, he was normal. There were no early signs that we saw. The disease hit Albert hard and fast.

On Pumpkin, we noticed her eye sight was getting progressively worse. In "The Chicken Health Handbook" page 286/287, DIAGNOSIS - symptoms (especially discolored iris and irregular pupil...distorted or blinded eye... We believe Pumpkin was blind in that eye with the irregular iris. Her feathers were not growing back and I also notice white bumps (tumors) near her back side. These are all signs of Marek's Disease.

Those two were the most photographed and story filled birds here at the Seehafer Farm. We will miss them deeply.

Video Man

Brian created the new job of camera man for Seehafer Farm. He'll be adding various videos of the "kids", farm adventures and giant pumpkins!

The first video: "Pumpkin Chasing BT" is about Brian's favorite girl, Pumpkin who loves to chase this squirrel who lives around our house somewhere. We can tell it's him by is short tail, hence the name BT, short for "Bobbed Tail." BT's entertainment is to annoy the girls and William Jake.

The second video: "Albert Showing Off For JD" is of Albert sliding down the hand rail of the back deck to get to his girl, JD! We actually thought he would fly down to her but why when you can look cool and slide down to your girl! Albert needs a little work on the "cool" part but he's doing great.

Enjoy the videos! There will be more to come by Brian, Seehafer Farm's camera man!

She's Moved In

Brian made Albert a special box so he could have his own area in the roost. It's his very own "man cave" but recently we've been finding little white eggs in the "man cave." J.D. has moved into Albert's box!

Poor Albert, he gets no personal space. I think Brian knows how he feels. Poor Brian.

For Michele and Chris

We love you and miss you both. Kiss the kittens for us.

Josie in her normal position. She's got such a smooch-able face, that is her mother's opinion... me!

Taking Your Job Seriously

So, you're looking at this photo and thinking... "why is Angie showing us a picture of a tree?" Hmmm... well, if you look really carefully, in those branches there, Albert is amongst them!

Brian called out to me... "Angie, where's the camera?!?!? You're not going to believe this!" Brian grabbed the camera and took these shots of Albert. Brian said that he watched Albert come up the stairs onto the back deck (as usual), hop on the outside chair (still usual), fly/hop on the railing of the deck and fly up into the tree (not at all usual). Our guess is that Albert had to get to the highest place he can for the other roosters to hear him in the neighborhood. That kid takes his job pretty seriously.

You get 'em Albert!

The Wonderful Thing About Pets

I think this is my favorite segment here on the Seehafer Blog. It shows how crazy our animals are and how silly these pet owners act... meaning Brian and I... more Brian though... hee hee!!

Take notice of Albert up in the club house. Look behind Albert, that's Brian. He put Albert up there! I caught them both red handed!

See, case in point, Brian is crazy about his rooster!

Wait till you see tomorrow's blog!
